Review of the Australian Consumer Product Safety
System Discussion Paper
Consultation Process
The review of the Australian consumer product safety system is
being conducted by the Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs (MCCA).
Detailed work on the review, including management of the public
consultation process, is being coordinated by the Treasury, on behalf
of MCCA.
This discussion paper forms the basis for initial public consultation
on the review. Its purpose is to raise issues and canvass possible
options and it does not represent the policy or position of any
government. It is not a proposal for regulatory action and no decisions
for regulatory change have been taken.
Interested parties are invited to make written submissions that
address, but need not be limited by, the issues for discussion raised
in this paper.
Submissions may be lodged electronically or by post or facsimile.

The closing date for submissions is 5 November 2004. All
submissions will be posted on the Ministerial Council on Consumer
Affairs (MCCA) website,
www.consumer.gov.au
(subject to any claims for confidentiality). Please note that submissions,
including confidential submissions, may be subject to Freedom of
Information and other laws and this should be taken into consideration
when making submissions.
