The Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs (MCCA) consists of
all Commonwealth, State, Territory and New Zealand Ministers responsible
for fair trading and consumer protection laws.
The role of MCCA is to consider consumer affairs and fair trading
matters of national significance and, where possible, develop a
consistent approach to those issues.
The Ministers meet twice a year, and there are also several offcial level committees
that meet throughout the year to discuss specific aspects of consumer
protection.
At the top level there is the Standing Committee of Officials of
Consumer Affairs (SCOCA), which consists of all chief executive
officers of consumer protection agencies. Under SCOCA, there are
three advisory committees and a consultative committee which deal with different aspects of consumer
protection:
- Policy and Research Advisory Committee (PRAC)
- Education and Information Advisory Committee (EIAC)
- Compliance and Dispute Resolution Advisory Committee (CDRAC)
- Product Safety Consultative Committee (PSCC)
Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs Strategic Agenda
The MCCA Strategic Agenda identifies
the projects MCCA intends to focus
on for period 2010 - 2012. The Agenda, however, is not exhaustive
and does not prevent MCCA from discussing or undertaking work on
new issues that may arise during the year.
The MCCA reviews the Agenda at each of its meetings and invites input and comment
from the consumer movement, business, government bodies and other
interested agencies and parties.
